Change Management 2015 is just around the corner
I’m looking forward to being your eyes and ears at the world’s largest gathering of change practitioners!
The timing of the conference is perfect; I have completed a 6 week personal yoga transformation, achieved the March month-end milestones of a ‘risk transformation’ project and helped facilitate the successful go-live of a technology project that I have been supporting for the past six weeks. It’s at times like this, when you have achieved your current short term goals, that you have a moment to stop and reflect on everything. And there is plenty to reflect on from the first few months of 2015!
One thought in particular that stands out – and therefore an area that I am looking forward to exploring further during the conference – is some of the “principles of influence” around Change Leadership and Change Leadership Development. This is an area which I see is of growing importance and greater focus for Strategic Change Managers today and certainly an area in which I would like to learn more about and develop in myself.
It is evident that Organizations are accepting that ‘change is good’ and that ‘Change Managers are valuable’, however one of the biggest challenges is being able to influence the right senior stakeholders within an organization to drive the right change across an organization and be true Change Leaders / Advocates.
It is great to see that discussions around ‘Leadership’ and ‘Principles of Influence’ are a recurring theme throughout next week’s conference, with Daniel Pink opening up the conference to introduce these topics specifically. I am looking forward to gaining insights into these topics and sharing my thoughts and learnings with you all as I make my way through the conference. One of the sessions I have got booked into my schedule for Monday is ‘Change Management: It’s Not About Initiatives, It’s About Influence’, where we will learn about the six sources of influence to motivate and enable behaviour change. Very exciting!
As I wrap up my work for the week and start packing my bags to join the Change Activation team in Las Vegas, I will continue to reflect on 2015 to date and note down some key exploration questions that I can take with me to the conference. Watch this space while I make my way across the Pacific.
